Poinsettias for Widows

Waco Lodge continued an annual tradition that goes back to at least the 1910s: delivery of flowers to our lodge’s widows during the holidays. It is always one of the favorite projects of many brothers and this year was no different. Personally, I’ve greatly enjoyed getting to know some of the ladies and one in particular, who immigrated from Germany many years ago, has created her own tradition of getting me to sing children’s songs in German to her grandchildren prior to playfully scolding them for not being able to speak German.

Some of the ladies were experiencing their first Christmas without their husbands and expressed their gratitude for the small but meaningful gesture from the lodge letting them know that we are thinking of them and here for them should any need arise. Several have already sent thank you cards like the one below who had her flowers delivered by Brother Ed Brown and his wife, Dottie:
