James Edward Crews
James Crews was born in McGregor on March 24, 1906. He grew up there before going to Texas A&M and then 4-C College in Waco.
Crews found work as an accountant with Magnolia Petroleum in 1930 and stayed with them until joining Frank L. Wilcox & Co. in 1944. Two years later, Crews became the Business Manager of Waco ISD in 1946 and remained in that capacity until 1971. Over the years, Crews campaigned for and successfully oversaw the upgrading and construction of various school buildings.
Crews was extremely well known at First Presbyterian Church where he ran the Sunday School, and at various times served as deacon, elder, and treasurer.
His year as Master of 92 was remembered as very successful and he went on to be District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 61C. He was a member of our Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the Karem Shrine. His son, Bert Crews, was named after Past Master Bert Perry who immediately preceded Brother Crews at Waco 92.
