W. L. Tucker

(Before 1860-About 1919)

Early Waco pharmacist and secretary of Waco Lodge in 1898 and in 1900. His pharmacy in downtown was known as Tucker’s “Lion Pharmacy” in 1885 and it was known you could get quick service any time of day or night. It was located on the first floor of our Masonic Hall, the Downs Building on the Square. Also served as an officer with the Oddfellows and the York Rite bodies of Waco. Vice President of the Texas State Pharmaceutical Association in 1892. YMCA volunteer as early as 1893. Became ill some time before 1916 and moved near his brother to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where his health improved. It seems he served with the Confederate Army(likely as a medic) as he was a member of the Pat Cleburne Camp of Confederate Veterans in 1915.
