Thomas Dugelby

(About 1817-After 1888)

Thomas Dugelby was born about 1817 in England. He moved to Texas about 1863 when the Confederate Army hired him to run a cotton mill near the Brazos in Waco. Its purpose was to provide clothing for the soldiers. Though little is known of him, Below are some of his accomplishments and titles:

Captain of the local militia “Central City Guards of Waco” during the 1870s.

Secretary of Waco Lodge in 1874.

He married Mary Dunnica in 1875.

Co-Owner of “Speight & Dugelby” realty company in 1881.

Stenographer for the Auditor Texas Benevolent Association, headquartered in Waco in 1885.

Co-Owner of “Pickett & Dugelby” Accounting firm offices at Provident Building 1892.

Auditor for the Waco & Northwestern Railway beginning 1893.

Night school instructor for Hill’s Business College also beginning 1893.

Moved to Dallas about 1895.

Traveling Accountant for the MKT (Katy) Railroad Company by 1896.

Moved to Houston in 1897.

His wife died in 1883 and is buried at First Street Cemetery. He may have married again to a woman named Clara who died in Fort Worth in 1895.
