| George Monroe Herbert was born November 8, 1941 in Waco, Texas to George R. Herbert, Jr. and Margie L. Baskin Herbert. He graduated in 1950 from Waco High School. Continuing his education, he attended Arlington State University and was in the ROTC, and Alvin Junior College. In 1967, George obtained a First Degree Red Belt in the Korean dang Soo Do Association Moo Duck Kwan, and following that, he obtained a First Degree Black Belt in Korean Tae Kwando from the Korean Tae Kwando Association. He became a Karate instructor at the Alvin Junior College in Alvin, Texas. |
George entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy on August 28, 1968 and was commissioned and appointed through the State of Texas DPS as a Highway Patrolman on December 15, 1968, and promoted to Narcotics Agent on June 1, 1974. His Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education Master Peace Officer was issued September 1, 1981. He retired from the Department of Public Safety on August 31, 2001, after 33 years of service. And he was commissioned as a Special Ranger on September 1, 2017.
George was also a proud member of many organizations, the Texas Narcotics Officers Association, Master Mason of Waco no. 92 Grand Lodge of Texas, Texas State Troopers Association, National Rifle Association of America, Central Texas Rifle and Pistol Club, Texas State Rifle Association, and the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. In 1972 he served as president of the Peace Officers Association in Brazoria County.
He enjoyed riding his Harley, collecting and shooting his guns, collecting knives, grilling, going out to eat and visiting with his friends and sharing his stories with some “literary license”.
