Alfred E. Twaddell

Alfred Twaddell moved to Waco with Shapley Ross in 1849. He soon opened the first furniture shop in town. In those days, furniture makers were also the community funeral director.

In 1853,Twaddell became the second sheriff of McLennan County, following the death of our first, Robert Hulme. Twaddell filled this role again in 1854, 1855, and from 1860 through 1862.
