From the East
Regarding current events at lodge, Secretary Waden has covered nearly everything I could share with you in his message. I would only add an announcement that Waco 92 will be in the downtown Waco “Winter Wonderland” parade this year on the morning of December 12. As we will also be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army that day, we need everyone we can get to participate in either function. I’ll see you at the stated meeting on November 12. Bring your wives, kids, and grandkids.
I recently had the pleasure of breaking bread with the family of our junior deacon, Bro. Mcham. He has a wonderful little family as you may have seen at stated meetings. They have answered my request in June for the brethren to incorporate their families with
masonry. I learned about Mrs. Mcham’s ministry whereby she reaches out to people in the local area who are certainly in need of spiritual leadership. I hope to see the lodge continue to grow in its commitment to charitable efforts and community interaction; there can be no doubt that the Mchams’ example will serve us well as we navigate that side of who we are as masons.
From the Secretary’s Desk
Sorry I could not make the stated meeting in October. I would like to take this time and thank Br. Ed Brown for filling in for me. I have a bad bronchitis infection. It has affected my speech. Some of you might say that you canÕt believe that I am speechless. Well, it has happened. Hopefully I will get my voice back real soon and can get back to my duties as secretary of the lodge.
At our November stated meeting we will be honoring our own Br. Stephen Kim Cowart with the Golden Trowel Award. I hope that you can be there to show Br. Cowart the support of the lodge that he so deserves. I have known Br. Cowart for quite some time now. We worked for many years together in the same department at Baylor University. The committee made a great choice when they picked Br. Cowart. On a personal note I would like to say congratulations to not only a great Masonic brother but to a true and trusted friend.
Dues notices for 2016 will be in the mail shortly. Please remit your 2016 dues in a timely manner. Just a reminder that you will need a 2016 dues card to attend lodge legally at the January stated meeting. Life members, 50 plus year members, and endowed members will be receiving their respective dues cards for 2016. If you are a dues paying member, I must receive your dues payment before I can send you the 2016 dues card. Dues are $75.00 per year. If you are interested in purchasing an endowed membership, please let me know. The endowed membership fee is $800.00. If you are interested in increasing your endowment, I can send you the form to fill out.
There are several events coming up that you might be interested in taking part. The first event is the Meals On Wheels that will be take place on Thanksgiving Day at the Waco Scottish Rite. If you have not participated in this before, I highly recommend that you take part. This is our chance to help the Meals On Wheels organization take a day off. We prepare the meals that go out those in need on Thanksgiving Day. This gives the Meals On Wheels people a day of rest. Check with the Waco Scottish Rite and sign up to help for this great cause. The second event is the Coffee Shop at Grand Lodge the first weekend in December. We are still looking for members to help in the coffee shop. Contact Br. Mark Brickhouse or myself and sign up to help. The following weekend (December 12th) we will be ringing the bells for Salvation Army at the Wal-Mart in Hewitt form 10am Ð 7pm. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the dining area of the lodge. On Saturday, December 19th we will deliver the poinsettias to our Waco area widows. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. Please help us get the poinsettias out to our widows. We will meet at the lodge at 10am and deliver the flowers until they are all delivered.
We should have a couple of EA degrees coming up. If you would like to participate in the degree work, I would like to strongly urge you to attend our work nights.
Hope to see everyone in lodge this month. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Tom Waden, Secretary
